I am running for the Palo Verde Community College Board because I believe our community deserves a college that is transparent, accountable, financially responsible, and focused on providing the best possible opportunities for students.
After spending more than 25 years in education, I understand how important a strong community college is to students, families, employers, and the entire Palo Verde Valley. A community college can change lives by helping students earn degrees and certificates, prepare for careers, transfer to universities, and develop the skills they need to succeed. It can also serve the broader community through workforce training, lifelong learning, cultural programs, athletics, and other educational opportunities.
I also believe that every public dollar entrusted to the college should be spent carefully and responsibly. Taxpayers deserve to know how their money is being used, why major expenditures are necessary, and how those expenditures benefit students and the community.
Since joining the Board in March 2026, I have worked to ask questions, carefully review expenditures and proposals, and make decisions independently based on what is best for students, the college, the community, and taxpayers. I believe Board members have a responsibility to study the issues, ask difficult questions when necessary, and make informed decisions rather than simply accepting recommendations without examination.
My goals include strengthening educational opportunities, increasing enrollment, expanding programs for our community, supporting workforce and career education, making greater use of college facilities and resources, and protecting the long-term financial health of Palo Verde College.
I want Palo Verde College to remain an institution our community can be proud of for generations to come. Good public service requires openness, responsible stewardship, independent judgment, and a willingness to ask questions—and that is the kind of trustee I intend to continue being.
First, I support greater transparency and accountability in college decision-making. Board members should carefully review major expenditures, contracts, and proposals, ask questions when necessary, and ensure taxpayer dollars are used responsibly and effectively.
Second, I want to expand educational opportunities for both traditional students and community members. This includes strengthening career and technical education, workforce training, transfer pathways, and short-term community classes in areas such as cooking, sewing, technology, personal enrichment, and practical life skills.
Third, I support increasing enrollment and Full-Time Equivalent Students by improving outreach and advertising, strengthening existing programs, and developing additional programs that attract students to Palo Verde College. I also support exploring additional athletic opportunities when they are financially responsible and can help increase enrollment and student engagement.
Fourth, I want the college’s Performance Center and other facilities to be used more fully for educational, cultural, and community events. These facilities belong to the community and should provide value beyond the regular classroom day.
Finally, I support protecting the college’s long-term financial stability. The Board must balance new programs and opportunities with responsible budgeting, appropriate reserves, and careful oversight of public funds.
My goal is a stronger Palo Verde College that serves students well, uses taxpayer money responsibly, expands opportunities, and remains closely connected to the community it was created to serve.
Have questions or suggestions? I would love to hear from you!
